(U.S. Department of Labor)
The Fair Labor Standards Act’s (FLSA) basic requirements are:
- Payment of the minimum wage
- Overtime pay for time worked over 40 hours in a work week
- Restrictions on the employment of children
- Recordkeeping
Note: FLSA can come into play regarding compressed schedules and overtime eligible employees. If a non-exempt employee (overtime eligible) works a compressed schedule, they can not work more than 40 hours in one week without incurring overtime. Please see the compressed schedule examples section of the website for additional guidance.
